Cantor T. Shalom
Cohen
Cantor T. Shalom Cohen joined the Shelter Rock Jewish Center in August of 2006. He was the cantor at Congregation Beth Shalom in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the successor to the great Moshe Taube. Prior to his engagement in New York, Cantor Cohen received his Masters Degree in Sacred Music and Diploma of Hazzan from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America as well as a Bachelor Degree in music with an emphasis in vocal performance from the University of Redlands in Redlands, California. Cohen is the recipient of many awards including: Richard H Briskin Cantor-in-Residence Award, Broome and Allen Scholarship, Sephardic Scholarship, Leon Prize and Music Merit Scholarship. Cantor Cohen has held positions in Hampton Virginia; Dix Hills, New York; Framingham, Massachusetts and Wayne, New Jersey. He has also appeared as guest cantor at Beth El in Rochester, New York; Shaarey Zedek in Southfield, Michigan and Congregation Beth Ami in Boca Raton, Florida. Cantor Cohen has also performed in various concerts in the Greater New York Area and has performed with the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance Chamber Vocal Ensemble as well as the Sutton Place Synagogue Choir, Park Avenue Synagogue Choir and the Great Synagogue of Jerusalem Choir. Cohen studies vocal arts with his maestro Mr. John Mace and cantorial arts with Cantor Noah Schall, the world's foremost teacher of hazzanut. Cohen is an avid surfer and Iyengar yoga practioner. |
