Shelter Rock Jewish Center

Together as women we embrace our heritage, foster mitzvot, express our love of Israel, challenge our intellects, serve congregants, build and improve SRJC, celebrate and support one another and benefit less fortunate families in our community.

All year long, we have exciting programs, meetings, trips, projects, and study sessions.

We also "dress" our beautiful Sukkah each year and arrange the Erev Sukkot dinner.

Members gather for our marathon assembly of Shalach Manot baskets.

Sisterhood is proud to be a vital pillar of our synagogue.

Many improvements to our facilities – from its Nursery School playground to its pews – came about through Sisterhood fundraising efforts.

All sisterhood members are enrolled as members of the organization Women’s League for Conservative Judaism comprised of Sisterhoods worldwide, and of its North Shore Long Island Branch, which provides educational programming and fosters social action and tzedakah programs.

Education – Holiday workshops, adult bat mitzvah program, trips to museums, Israeli affairs, discussions, guest speakers, book author presentations and book discussion groups.

Fundraising – annual major event with show, dinner and raffles; sukkah decorating and family dinner; purim baskets (Shalach Manot); rummage sale.

Community Outreach – food drives in conjunction with FEGS; charity to the poor; bikur cholim-calls/visits to the homebound

Membership – New member’s tea; annual paid up membership dinner; Mother’s day program Tribute Cards. We service the community by sending out messages for mazel tov, cheer and condolences. Birthday & Anniversary Greetings are sent to all SRJC members. Forms to support this are in the SRJC mailpack or contact Mae Liss for further information.

Torah Fund – We support the Jewish Theological Seminary in conjunction with Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, through the sale of Torah Fund pins and cards. Contact Lorraine Smith at 516-742-1522.
