Social Action Committee

Chair - Susan Pavane

The Social Action Committee continues to work to help the neighborhood, the environment and the Jewish Community both here and in Israel. We are fortunate to collaborate with many arms of the synagogue including Sisterhood, Men’s Club, Religious School, and Adult Education. Please contact us for more information.

We are an active participant in TANS (The Tikkun Alliance of the North Shore) and the Sid Jacobson JCC. A collaborative community effort formed to address issues affecting our world today. Their mission on tikkun olam, repairing the world, includes tackling problems such as hunger, poverty and the environment and demonstrating support to the state of lsrael we support whole heartedly.

The Curb Your Mitzvah is a program designed for safe curbside drop-off of donations each month by community donors. Bring non-perishable food donations to SJJCC’s Community Needs Bank with their safe curbside drop-off. Much needed items include cold cereal, pancake mix, rice (1-5 lb. bags), and tomato sauce.

Community volunteers are our people power, helping to direct traffic, unload cars, count and weigh donations, and stock the shelves of the Community Needs Bank. Synagogues are welcome to host CURB Your Mitzvah and help stock the shelves of the food bank throughout the year.

Bring all items to Sid Jacobson JCC’s Annex, 200 Forest Drive, East Hills, NY 11548.

ln addition to this ongoing food drive, each month we work with TANS and the JCC and support supplemental drives
