January 11, 2023 - Thelma Rehr, a former member of our congregation and the widow of the late Jerry Rehr. Thelma died in Florida, where she lived. The family will sit shiva at the home of Eric Rehr, 10 Jackie Drive in Morganville, New Jersey, where they will receive visitors on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9 PM.

November 23, 2022 – Elliott Gevisenheit. Graveside funeral at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Glendale, Queens, on Friday, November 25. Shiva at the Gevisenheit home, 450 Links Drive South, Roslyn, Saturday Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, then at the home of Rhonda & Michael Heller, 115 Saddle Ridge Lane in Woodbury, New York. Sunday evening, and Monday through Wednesday afternoon. There will be services in the Gevisenheit home on Saturday evening at 5:45 PM and in the Heller home from Sunday through Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM. All are welcome. Elliott’s daughter, Cara Wulfsohn, will sit shiva at her home 103 Mount Tom Road, New Rochelle on Monday and Tuesday, There will be an evening minyan at the Wolfsohn home at 7 PM on Monday and Tuesday. On the other days of shiva, Cara will join the rest of the family either in Roslyn or Woodbury.

November 1, 2022 – Alan Aaron, the father of Fred Aaron. Death was in Boynton Beach, Florida, Graveside funeral on Monday, November 7, at the Mount Lebanon Cemetery on Myrtle Avenue in Glendale, Queens. Shivah at Fred’s brother, Nelson’s, Great Neck.
October 4, 2022 – Gerald Matis, the father of our former hazzan, Cantor Benjamin D. Matis. Funeral October 7 at 1 PM at Gutterman’s Funeral Home, 8000 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, New York. Burial at Beth David Cemetery on Elmont Road in Elmont. Subsequent to the burial, the family will sit shiva briefly at Cantor Matis’s parents’ home, located at 166 Larry Lane in Dix Hills. Cantor Matis will then return home on Saturday evening to sit shiva on Sunday morning at his own home, located at 23 Saddle Court in Pikesville, Maryland. Shiva observance ends on Sunday as Sukkot begins.

September 22, 2022 – Michael E. Freeman, brother of Joan Freeman. Michael died in Toronto, where he lived. Funeral at the Pardes Shalom Cemetery in Vaughn, Ontario. Due to Rosh Hashanah, the truncated Shivah was Michael’s home on Vivaldi Drive in Vaughn.

November 19, 2014 – Rabbi Abraham Isaac Zigelman, father of Aviva Zigelman Horowitz. Born in Palestine, Rabbi Zigelman grew up in Meah Shearim and came to New York by boat as a child. In 1944 he graduated the Mesivta Tifereth Jerusalem Rabbinical Seminary in New York City, where he was sponsored into the rabbinate by Reb Moshe Feinstein and Rabbi Samuel Greineman. He was the rabbi of Temple Beth Abraham in North Bergen, New Jersey for 44 years. He also became a member of the Rabbinical Council of America and the New York Board of Rabbis, and the Chaplain of the local police force in North Bergen. He recently lost his son, Dr. David Zigelman. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Beatrice Zigelman, his daughters Aviva and Reena, daughter in law Shaindy, and 8 grandchildren. The funeral will take place tomorrow, Thursday, November 20 at 12:00 PM at Gutterman Musicant in Hackensack, NJ. Rabbi Zigelman will be buried in Israel on Har Hamenuchot. Shiva will be at Rabbi Zigelman’s home in Fort Lee on Sunday - Wednesday morning, and the home of Aviva Horowitz on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
