Welcome to the SRJC Early Childhood Center
robyn Locke, Director
Begin your child’s journey with us and become an important part of the Shelter Rock Jewish Center Family! We hope you’ll join our family where your Early Childhood Center tuition is your “passport” to free synagogue membership.
Since 1997, we have been nurturing children and introducing them to Jewish values and traditions.
Because our school is a place where intellectual development and curiosity are highly valued, your child will be ready to enter any learning environment with a love of learning and readiness to discover.
The school’s highly qualified and dedicated staff will ensure that each child is able to grow at his or her own pace. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are the only school in the area offering a dual Hebrew/English curriculum.
We offer secular early childhood education while celebrating the values of our Jewish heritage.
Each child brings a unique blessing into the world. The warm, caring environment of our program nurtures that blessing and helps it flourish.

Education and Family Engagement
As Director of Shelter Rock Jewish Center Early Childhood Center, Robyn Locke works closely with the Director of the Religious school, Phillip Dickstein to fulfill a vision that our schools and their enrolled families should have a strong bridge to the entire SRJC community. Together they strives to engage the children and their families in a continuum of meaningful Jewish learning and experiences.

“I just wanted to let you know that we are so grateful for all the wonderful work that all your staff is doing with our son. HE is learning so much and he is excited about being intellectually curious. I’m so impressed with the curriculum. The other day, our son said: “Thanksgiving started in 1620’s. Mommy” Please give our compliments to the teachers and please find a way to extend your school up to 8th grade. - Kelly, mom in the four year old class
I have two kids in Shelter Rock Early Childhood Center and love the program. My prekindergarten knows all Hebrew alphabet and many words and loves doing homework. The curriculum is amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful. The director is one of the best out there and on her game. It’s great to have such an amazing program for my kids so I can go to work everyday with ease of mind knowing my kids are in good hands. Absolutely recommend. - Sheila, mom in the three and four year old classroom.
My heart is melting! Thank you for being so amazing to my kids. They love you! - Patricia, mom of twins in the toddler class
Our Accreditation and Certifications
New York State of Children & Family Services:
Our program is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). The following are the benefits of choosing a licensed school:
Training and Experience - Our staff, with over 15 years of experience, strives to provide the best early childhood education by participating in ongoing training in areas such as safety, nutrition, curriculum, and current policies relevant to childcare. In addition, a degree in education is required for all of our head teachers.
Staff-Child Ratios – By following the staff-child ratio regulations we ensure that children are properly supervised and receive all the attention they need.
Health and Safety - Our facility is routinely inspected by local health and safety organizations to guarantee that we are up to date with regulations regarding NY State standards for childcare settings. All of the staff that is in contact with children is required to be fingerprinted and go through a background check.
American Red Cross:
Every year our staff participates in a training lead by an American Red Cross instructor to review current health and safety procedures. We renew First Aid, Epi Pen administration and CPR certifications as required by the American Red Cross and OCFS.
The Jewish Education Project:
We are proud to belong to a network of Jewish early childhood programs under the supervision of the Jewish Education Project (JEP). Our participation ensures that our Judaic and Hebrew curriculum is up to date with the latest programs and methodologies.
